But, more basically, the issue seems to be that I don't actually need it. I occasionally toy around with the idea of using Tinderbox, before setting it aside on the basis of price and difficulty. I understand the temptation to try out a new piece of software. (I gather that some people try, but I wonder how successfully). But I think that using it without some awareness of the GTD approach would be a kind of torture. Much of the flexibility implied in the GTD approach is allowed for in Omnifocus. There is no contradiction in terms in my previous message (I don't think). And, that's exactly how the program feels to me. I also thought it was telling when you said in your posting above: "Omnifocus is a very robust and flexible application that allows for a fairly strict implementation of GTD." It almost sounds like a contradiction in terms (flexible and strict). It was interesting that people tend to bounce back and forth between Things and OF. I read other similar feelings from people who'd been using FO for years, not hours. Watch the videos once, maybe, and you're already there. Yet, it's more logical and I would argue easier to use. OmniGraffle, for example, is way more complex than OF. To me, and apparently to others as well, it's just not an intuitive program and if it doesn't start to feel that way after 3 hours, it's very much unlike 99.5% of programs I've used. I would also say that I don't want to spend a lot of time climbing a learning curve to learn (and adapt to) a strict methodology imposed by the program. I don't doubt what you're saying except to say that I know exactly what my list management/to-do needs are. Only then would you see how it shines.ģ hours would not have brought you to this point. You would probably have to buy into the GTD thing first, and then go back to omnifocus. Omnifocus is a very robust and flexible application that allows for a fairly strict implementation of GTD. I don't suppose you are under any obligation to like it, so if you find that Things and Busycal fill your needs, then perhaps you are right in sticking with them. If you don't first understand what hole it fills, it will be quite difficult to figure out how effectively it fills it. It is just possible that you are trying to like the application, without first understanding what it is and what it is for. So, although I think OmniOutliner and OmniGraffle rank among the best software in class I've used, and knowing no program is ever "perfect", I was totally disappointed with OF.įor now, I'll either use Things or just do things in Busy Cal and forget this extra software totally. I suppose it depends on the user's needs I'm just passing along my experiences from using both. I'm sure Things has deficiencies as well and I'm not saying it's "better". I didn't find myself stumped trying to use the program instead of having it help me manage my tasks. Plus, the interface is beautiful and simple. In Things, on the other hand, I can add as many tags as I want. OK I guess, but why do I need to make (and understand) this distinction? Again, IMHO, this is needless complexity lopped onto the user. Then there are the OF views (Command + 1, Command + 2). And again, you really need to understand it. Seems very limiting and confusingly implemented. Really? The way I think of context is it's sort of like metadata. Plus, you can only assign one context to a to-do. In OmniFocus, the whole concept of "context" is strange - at least to me. Something is wrong when software is this complicated and too much of that complexity is lopped on to the user's shoulders.ĭoing some Internet searches, I found similar feedback. Rather than being intuitive, I found myself needing to watch the OF videos again and again and still not being sure I "got it". With OF, it was all about using and understanding OF. With Windows, it's all about Windows, not your applications. Actually, OF sort of reminds me of using Windows. I also think the application is not very attractive, which isn't as big a deal if it's really a productivity booster, which I don't think it is either. I had to call support to find out I needed to fiddle with the Perspectives (change it "back" (?) to "All). In my first few minutes of playing with it each project I added went away after I closed and reopened the program. Love them both and use them often.įirst impressions (after 3 hours of struggling): Yuck. I have OmniGraffle Pro and OmniOutliner Pro.

Codable, which allows the transfer of data both. We’ll also review several practical JSON use cases. Ever since the introduction of Codable in Swift 4.0, enums that belong to the former category have always supported compiler synthesis. This succinct, example-based article will show you a couple of different ways to convert a given array to JSON. We need these 2 fundamental functions in order to convert the JSON data into objects that Swift can interpret. In this article, we’ll investigate simplifying JSON parsing in Swift using Codable. Raw representable enumsĮnums generally come in two variants - those that are backed by raw values (such as Int or String), and those that contain associated values. How to encode everything from URLs, to Arrays. Let’s take a look at how that automatic synthesis works for enums specifically, and how that part of the system has been upgraded in Swift 5.5. By the end of this chapter you will know: How to parse JSON objects into Swift. Adding elements to array from another class. As of Swift 4.0, the Swift standard library includes the protocols Encodable and Decodable to define a standardized approach to data encoding and decoding. Swift 2 Parsing JSON - Cannot subscript a value of type AnyObject 1. Note: The Following is currently available only in Swift 4.0 and later. We offer seamless JSON-to-Swift model conversion that is compatible with both Swift 2.0 and Swift 4.0 frameworks. In many cases, all that we have to do to enable a Swift type to be serialized into formats like JSON is to mark it as Codable, and the compiler takes care of the rest. Here is a Swift 4 example using the Codable protocol. One of the major advantages of Swift’s built-in Codable API is how the compiler is able to automatically synthesize many different encoding and decoding implementations when using it. This time was a bit different as the AC-130J was openly transmitting its info on ADS-B and there were enough receivers in Iraq to pick up a good track. This is especially true for special operations aircraft, such as the AC-130J or the MC-130J. The Ghostrider’s track in the night between Nov. So, if an aircraft is not visible on flight tracking websites, it either means there are no receivers in the area or the aircraft is not transmitting on those modes and using other transponder modes like Mode-3C which is picked up only by ATC radars. In fact, the latter show data received via Mode-S, ADS-B, TIS-B, ADS-C or calculated via MLAT but, to be able to do so, there must also be dedicated receivers for those signals in the area. Contrary to the belief of many, this doesn’t mean that they are flying with their transponder off, but rather they are using other transmission modes that are not picked up by flight tracking websites. In 2017, Billboard listed "It's a Wrap", "Lead the Way", "There for Me", " The Roof (Back in Time)" and " Thank God I Found You" ( Make It Last Remix) as Carey's top five most underappreciated songs. The singer has collaborated with a number of songwriters throughout her career, with many of the songs reaching number-one on the music charts around the world, including " Hero", " All I Want for Christmas Is You", " Fantasy", " Always Be My Baby", " Heartbreaker", " We Belong Together" and " Touch My Body". For her sophomore release Emotions, Carey wrote all of the lyrics herself and co-composed the music with other collaborators, and is similarly credited for doing the same for the majority of the songs on Music Box, Daydream and Butterfly (1997). Of her nineteen Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles in the United States – the most among soloists – she has written eighteen of them. After a relatively unsuccessful period with Glitter (2001) and Charmbracelet (2002), whereby Carey suffered a physical and mental breakdown in between the releases, she returned to prominence with the multi-platinum, number-one albums The Emancipation of Mimi (2005) and E=MC² (2008) and the critically acclaimed Caution (2018).Ĭarey has been noted for co-writing and producing all of her original material. From then on she released a series of critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums in nearly every year of the remaining decade, including Music Box (1993) and Daydream (1995), both of which are certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Mariah Carey was followed by Emotions (1991) and MTV Unplugged (1992). She co-wrote all of the ten songs, seven of which were with her writing partner Ben Margulies. Starr, Carey signed with Columbia Records (a record label owned by Sony Music) in 1988 with the help of Starr and released her eponymous debut album in 1990. Sweet-inspired promotions, including a gobstopper machine gift set and a lollipop rollerball fragrance set, will launch beginning in the autumn, according to Elizabeth Arden. In addition, each fragrance purchase will include a Ring Pop, made by Bazooka Candy and the advertising campaign will feature Carey wearing Ring Pops, which are edible jewellery products, aimed at pre-teens. The fragrance and packaging are confectionary and flavor-inspired, and an interactive online experience will also incorporate further confection-themed ideas. The confectionary theme is repeated throughout the launch activity. The name was inspired by Carey’s marriage proposal, when her partner presented her with an an engagement ring hidden inside a lollipop package. |
